Raphael post boxes

28/10/24
I have been post-box hunting in London due to its abundance of cool, rare post-boxes. This time, I collected some quirky ones. Was a great day!
Our first post-box was a fail. We wanted to find Chinneck's post-box:
Instead we were disappointed to find that for some reason they have been removed, if you know why please tell us.
Our following ones were successful:

Sadly this one had been taped off, again we do not know why, but on our database this post-box is actually labelled a wall post-box as if you look closely, even though it is touching the ground, it is connected to the wall! This makes it the only wooden, wall post-box!
The wooden post-box in Burlington House's courtyard, a relic from when the site housed a post office until 1904, serves as a unique historical feature connecting the building's past to its current role as a hub for learned societies.
Next we have this one!

This is the only double sided post-box EVER! Located at the Royal Hospital Chelsea houses, with both front and rear apertures, allowing Chelsea Pensioners and other residents to conveniently access the box from either side.. It is a Victorian post-box just to add to its rareness!
And the final one:

The photoshop broke for this one.
This post-box here is a normal type, design, quite an old cypher but the post-box is not the star of the show here. It is the tree which has grown around it for 120 years. This is definitely one of my favourites!
At the end of the day, I visited some friends. Thank you Carle, Sonya, Duncan, Natacha, Rosana and Miro for the amazing evening! Duncan who is an artist told me, I should not use Chinneck twisted postbox as a logo and try to make my own; so that's what I will do. I was planning to ask permission at some point btw... check Duncan's arts.
That will be all for now ,but next, we have a big trip ahead...
Amazing work, very well documented!
Very nice blog Raphaël!
Thank you Carle, Sonia, Duncan, Natacha, Rosana and Miro and Arnaud :)
